Configuration files¶
Bella ScreenRec keeps what you set in the control window in plain text files (TOML). You normally never touch them: every change in the window is saved at once.
Where they are¶
| macOS | |
|---|---|
| Settings | ~/.config/bella-screenrec/ (or $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/bella-screenrec) |
| License | ~/Library/Application Support/bella-screenrec/ |
| Recordings | ~/Movies/, unless you chose another folder |
~ is your home folder.
The settings folder¶
| File | What is in it |
|---|---|
settings.toml |
what you chose in the control window: codec, frame rate, microphone, camera and its look, keys, output folder, hotkey, updates, theme |
state.toml |
what Bella ScreenRec remembers: the last source, the regions per screen, where the overlays are and how big |
A file that cannot be read is replaced by the defaults; a missing setting takes its default.
settings.toml¶

To change the hotkey, quit Bella ScreenRec, edit hotkey (for example "mod-alt-r") and start it again. A hotkey another app already uses is reported, and recordings can then be stopped from the menu bar.
The license file¶
license.toml holds your license key and this computer's activation. Only your user can read it. See License.
Nothing is sent anywhere: the only connections Bella ScreenRec makes are the license activation and the update check.
